Initiated and organized by MUDAM. Collaboration with Luxinnovation.

Curator: Sophie Krier, Independent designer/critic
Project manager: Anna Loporcaro, MUDAM
Workshop & Videos: Jan Glas, Justine Valet, Luxinnovation

  • What added value can design bring to Luxembourgish entrepreneurship, education and culture?
  • How is design currently being perceived and applied across the country?
  • What’s going on in the contemporary, international design field and what can the Luxembourgish scene learn from these developments?
  • Last but not least, how can Luxembourg foster and nurture a local design culture of international relevance?

The symposium addresses the above questions from different angles. The opening keynote will give a global view of the economical, environmental and political forces that drive the world today, and will discuss the shifting position of Luxembourg therein. Acclaimed designers working in the cultural field and the economic realm will present their diverging views and practices.

In conclusion, the Luxembourgish iron and steel heritage issue will be discussed in relation to similar transitions from industrial to creative industries in France and Germany. The afternoon program will centre on three parallel master classes led by international experts in collaboration with local creative minds, on the topics of networking, co-creation, design management and service design.
